PsycInfo, PsycArticles, & Beyond

Sometimes instruments are not available commercially and appear only in research articles. The only way to locate these instruments is to search the journal databases, such as PsycInfo, PsycArticles, Education Research Complete, SportDiscus with Full Text, Academic Search Premier, etc. Since all the databases mentioned are on the EBSCOhost platform, you can search by clicking the EBSCO Articles link on the library's web site. This search selects all the EBSCO databases by default. To select certain databases, click the Choose Databases link - located just above the search boxes on the search interface. Double click the Select/DeSelect box. This should uncheck all the databases, now you can check the one(s) you wish to search. Click OK to return to the search page. Enter the name of the instrument you wish to find. Always ask a librarian for assistance if you are having difficulty locating a specific instrument or measure.

Examples:

Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire-21 (TFEQ-21)

Two items came up. One article in English looks promising. Sometimes the instrument will be included as an appendix to the research article. Other times you have to glean the questions from the Methodology section of the study. If the instrument is not included with the article, there are two options for obtaining the item.

Google Search the instrument

Paffenbarger Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ)

The first item looks promising, and is available electronically through an institution's digital repository. The instrument is available in full in this document.

Contact the Author of the Instrument/Original Study

No matter how hard you try, there will be some instruments for which you cannot locate electronic copies. You must contact the author/creator of the instrument. In most full text articles, the author's contact information will be linked to the author's name. Most are willing to share for academic purposes.
