Library Day Fall 2024

Searching Strategically

Doing research involves navigating a number of systems and tools. While you don't need to become an expert in navigating them (that's the librarian's job!), you will need to learn some basic skills and dispositions to facilitate your research.

Please watch the first video below, "One Perfect Source," from the NCSU Libraries. It offers a really great overview of how to think strategically about your topics and questions as you navigate library tools.

I am also leaving several videos on the page that cover other library searching skills like Keywording, using Boolean Operators, and navigating EBSCOhost (the platform that hosts many of the databases you'll use in the Seminary). You do not need to watch all of these, but are welcome to view the videos that seem most interesting or useful to you.

EBSCOhost Databases

If you conduct research in the areas of religion/ministry, psychology, social work, leadership, communication, or education, some of your best tools from the library will be available on the EBSCOhost platform. Below is a series of videos that can walk you through the basics of navigating the platform from building a search to reading full text.
